ben shahn

here is something quite different. mosly my fondness of art tends to limit itself to paintings of women, you might have noticed. that's because i believe that art's main expression is 'intimacy.' (i wrote about it in dutch, yesterday)
but here's ben shahn. no women this time.
he is just a keen observer, a man who stands amidst a crowd of people, drawing and painting what he sees. the intimacy we are dealing with here is the intimacy of a journalist. a man who looks at what's happening, and writes it down with his skillfull hand.
it's the intimacy of standing in a crowd, alone, and seeing everything.
